
Constitution of Terps for Israel
Preamble
We, the members of Terps for Israel, do hereby establish this Constitution in order that our purpose be realized to its fullest extent.
Article I - Name
The name of the organization will be Terps for Israel, henceforth referred to as Terps for Israel.
Article II - Purpose
Terps for Israel is a Zionist organization established for the expressed purpose of engaging the campus community on matters related to Israel through educational, cultural, and political programming.
Terps for Israel understands and is committed to fulfilling its responsibilities of abiding by University of Maryland, College Park policies.
Article III - Membership
Membership shall be limited to persons officially connected with the University of Maryland, College Park as currently enrolled students. To become a member of Terps for Israel, interested persons must attend one organization meeting and register through Terplink.
Terps for Israel does not restrict membership or discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, marital status, age, national origin, political affiliation, physical or mental disability, religion, protected veteran status, genetic information, personal appearance, or on the basis of rights secured by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution. Article IV - Officers
Terps for Israel will be governed by the following means:

An elected President will preside at all meetings of Terps for Israel, oversee all operations of the organization, provide guidance to board members, and serve as primary point of contact for outside individuals and organizations.

Terps for Israel shall also maintain a Vice President. The Vice President's duties shall be to preside at all meetings and functions that the President cannot attend and direct administration of the organization.

Terps for Israel shall also maintain a Finance Chair, responsible for all monetary accounts and Student Government Association funds.

All officers of this organization must be currently enrolled students at the University of Maryland College Park.
Article V - Operations

Voting Eligibility

Those members attending at least 50% of Terps for Israel events shall be granted eligibility to vote.

Election Process

All officers shall be elected by a majority vote of eligible voting members of Terps for Israel. All elections will be held on an annual basis during the last month of the spring semester with at least two week’s notice given prior to the meeting where elections are to be held. Terms of office shall begin immediately upon adjournment of the election meeting.

Candidates shall submit their intent to run for an officer position by notifying the President when the intent period is open. In the event that the President is running for a position, submission of intent to run shall be submitted to the Vice President.

The President, or presiding officer, shall open the election and will allow candidates to give speeches of no more than two minutes, one position at a time. Speeches will be directly followed by voting. The organization will start with the election of President, followed by Vice President, followed by chair positions.

All voting shall be done by secret ballot. Ballots will be collected and tabulated by the outgoing President or presiding officer. The candidate receiving the majority vote shall be deemed the winner. If no one candidate receives a majority vote, a run-off will occur with the two highest vote-recipients from the previous round.

Article VI - Amendments

The constitution is binding to all members of the Terps for Israel. But the constitution is not binding unto itself.

The constitution shall be reviewed by each board at their inaugural meeting.
